Beardtongue

Beardtongue (Penstemon digitalis ‘Husker Red’)

Blooms April to June. Clump-forming perennial with bronze leaves. Cut back flower stems in mid-summer once blooming ends, which encourages the plant to put on an additional flush of foliage growth. 1996 Perennial Plant Association Plant of the Year

Pests or Problems: No serious insect or disease problems. Root rot can occur in wet, poorly-drained soils. Leaf spots are occasional problems.
