The Collin County Master Gardeners Association is an integral part of the Texas AgriLIFE Extension Service and the Texas A&M University System. To support and encourage educational pursuits in Horticultural areas of study the Collin County Master Gardeners Association sets aside a portion of our fund raising for a scholarship each year.
The application and essay and one teacher reference must be submitted by April 15, 2010. The scholarship will be awarded no later than May 30, 2010.
Who is eligible? High School seniors who are Collin County residents (class of 2010), and who intend to select any one of the following as their college major: Botany, Entymology, Environmental Science, Forestry, or Horticulture

For 2009 acedemic year, two (2) $1000 scholarships were awarded to recipients from each eand of the county
The first, at Celina High School in the northwest, is a true agricultural gal concerned with the disappearance of farms versus housing developments She followed an academic program that included biology, chemistry, physics, and calculua but additionally had classes in Agmechanics I & II . She was a blue ribbon winner at the San Antonio AgMechanics project in both 08 and 09. A FFA member for 3 years, she has done poultry judging and been a youth group leader at the Trail to Heaven Cowboy Church. She will major an Ag Education at Blinn College.
From the southeast of the county is a winner headed for UC Boulder to study Environmental design/landscape architecture. AP and Honors classes in Env Science, English, Chemistry and History went along with playing in the Texas State Honor Orchestra in 2009. She was a varsity swimmer and National Honor Society member. As a swimmer she spent her summers both teaching and lifeguarding.
Both recipients were avid band members.
