Junior Master Gardeners

Outreach to the children of Collin County takes Master Gardeners to community events, local schools and a variety of youth projects.

Master Gardeners introduce children in Collin County to their natural environment through the Junior Master Gardeners program, which features hands-on gardening and outdoor exploration activities as well as indoor educational opportunities.

Master Gardener volunteers interact with youngsters through:

  • A story-telling program about famous people in history who had a love of gardening and nature. This 45-minute program is available for special events, schools, scouting and other youth groups.
  • The Junior Master Gardener program, which engages children in novel, "hands-on" group and individual learning experiences that promote a love of gardening, develop an appreciation for the environment, and cultivate the mind. For a sampling of the curricula, click here.
  • Instruction of children in gardening projects (e.g., composting) sponsored by local schools and youth groups. Master Gardeners will participate actively in the design, development, gardening instruction and maintenance of children's gardens.
